How can SWAN help?
- SWAN offers short term support to birth parents whose children have adoption plan or have been adopted. There is no charge for this service.
- SWAN’s support is tailored to what each person wants and needs.
- SWAN’s support focuses on helping birth relatives to understand and adjust to the adoption plan.
How does SWAN help?
- SWAN’s support is usually short term and to do with how you feel about your relative’s adoption.
- SWAN will give you your own worker who can meet you alone or with someone you know and trust.
- SWAN workers can give advice, listen, help people to participate in the planning or in contact arrangements, help people to find ways of coping with their grief.
- SWAN workers can help people put together information about their birth family for their adopted children.
Who can SWAN help?
- SWAN can help parents, brothers and sisters, and grandparents of adopted children.
There are areas where SWAN cannot help:
- SWAN cannot provide reports to Court.
- SWAN cannot give legal advice.
- SWAN cannot change the plans for adopted children.
- SWAN is always keen to develop its services in response to service user feedback. Please tell us if there is anything else that you want help with.
