We help adopted family members

Many adoptive families go through periods of exceptional need particularly at times of change. Sometimes the whole family or some members of it could do with a chance to work things through with a specialist professional outside the family.

These sorts of times may be when a new child joins the family, when there is a change of schools, moving house, change of family circumstances, growing up, changing perceptions of the birth family, contact issues.

SWAN can give short term (four to ten sessions) support to members of adoptive families who need support through difficult periods.

  • SWAN can work with whole families, with a particular child with close liaison with their parents, or with one or two parents; SWAN is also happy to co-work with adoption agency and other professional workers.
  • When funding is available and there is a level of demand SWAN can run groups for members of adoptive families.
  • SWAN is always keen to develop its services in response to service user feedback.

We felt that the support worker had a real empathy with our situation. We are very grateful to SWAN for providing this support in our recent time of turmoil.
