Services available from SWAN
Schedule 2 counselling which starts the process of giving adopted adults access to their birth records. Currently this is only available to Bristol residents. Adopted adults living in other authorities should approach their local adoption support team.
Gaining access to birth records – this is a FREE service available to adopted adults in our areas.
Locating and making contact with birth relatives separated by adoption.
Specialist counselling to adopted adults regarding adoption issues. This is a free short term service available to those living in our subscribing areas.
Development – SWAN is always keen to develop its services in response to service user feedback.
Intermediary Services SWAN strongly advises that adopted adults should use an Intermediary to make contact with birth relatives to make the process more comfortable for all parties. See our Guide opposite for more information about Intermediary services.
When people cannot afford to pay for an Intermediary SWAN will give advice to individuals who want to make direct contact.
SWAN has to charge for intermediary services. A subsidised rate may be available for those on very low incomes.
- Intermediaries have to consider the welfare of all parties who may be affected by an intermediary approach.
- SWAN cannot guarantee to find relatives separated by adoption nor can we ensure that they want to have contact with you.
